Research Methodology Workshop

A two-day workshop on Research Methodologies and Practices was organized for undergraduate and postgraduate social work students of Mar Elias College, Kottapady on 25th and 26th October 2024. The aim of the workshop was to enhance students' understanding of research techniques, methodologies, and tools relevant to the field of social work.

The workshop was inaugurated on the first day (25th October 2024) in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Joseph T. Moolayil (Principal), Dr. Deepak Joseph (Head of the Department of Social Work, S.B. College, Changanassery), Soumya Mathew (Head of the Department of Social Work, Mar Elias College), Sayana Sunny (PG Coordinator), and the coordinators of the program Fathimathu Suhanna and Anu Biju Jacob. The inaugural session was marked by a warm welcome from the Workshop Coordinator, Fathimathu Suhanna.

Dr. Deepak Joseph, the Chief Guest and Resource Person, formally inaugurated the workshop, delivering an inspiring speech. In his address, he emphasized the importance of research in social work, especially in addressing contemporary social issues. He encouraged students to adopt a scientific approach to research, ensuring that their work contributes to meaningful change in society.

The workshop was divided into several sessions, focusing on different aspects of research methodology in social work. Dr. Deepak Joseph led the discussions with practical insights, real-world examples, and research strategies that would be helpful for students undertaking research in social work. The first day of the workshop was conducted for third-year BSW students, and the second day for second-year MSW students.

The workshop focused on equipping undergraduate and postgraduate social work students with essential research skills, emphasizing research methodologies, data collection techniques, and data analysis. The sessions covered both qualitative and quantitative methods, guiding students on how to design research, collect data ethically, analyze findings, and write research proposals and reports.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from Anu Biju Jacob, one of the coordinators. In her closing remarks, she expressed gratitude to Dr. Deepak Joseph for his valuable insights, as well as to the students for their enthusiastic participation. She also acknowledged the support of the college administration and the efforts of the organizing team in making the workshop a success.

OUTCOME OF THE WORKSHOP
The workshop successfully equipped students with a deeper understanding of research methodologies and practical skills in conducting social work research. Key outcomes included enhanced knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, improved data collection and analysis techniques, and a stronger grasp of ethical considerations in research.
