About the Department
The Department of Commerce at Mar Elias College has come a long way since its inception in 2006. Over the past eighteen years, our department has grown exponentially, producing numerous alumni who now hold esteemed positions worldwide. In line with the New Education Policy, we conduct a Four-Year Undergraduate Program B.Com (Honors) and Post Graduate Program M.Com (Finance and Taxation). To equip our students with industry-friendly skills, we offer add-on courses in accounting and other elite sectors, career empowerment programs, Finishing School Programs, placement assistance, and internships.
B.COM With Company Secretary
The Department has been recognized as an Ernakulam Study Centre by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), a prestigious professional body. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to academic excellence and comprehensive education in commerce and related fields.
As a dedicated hub for students pursuing Company Secretary (CS) courses, our centre provides:

- Exam Support: Assistance with registration, preparation, and updates
Our centre aims to bridge the gap between aspiring Company Secretaries and professional excellence, helping students achieve their career goals in corporate governance and compliance.
The highlights are: -
• Bachelor of Commerce is an on-campus, honours program, is a full-time 4 years programme with 177 Credit points fully complying with the New Education Policy requirements.
• Students have the option to choose a Bachelor's Degree of Commerce (B. Com) and B. Com (Hons.) as per the New Education Policy (NEP) guidelines.
• This program focuses on how to apply theory to real-world situations, using a variety of methods including multimedia presentations, seminars, case studies, and visits from prestigious guest speakers.
• With the help of the expert faculty, students will sharpen their critical thinking, analytic, communication, and leadership skills.
• Guides the students to choose projects and areas which are relevant to the industry keeping in view the student-specific priorities.
• Guidance for taking up professional qualifications in parallel.
B.Com with ACCA
The department offers B.Com with ACCA in collaboration with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC). The program provides students with exemptions for up to 9 ACCA papers and industry-relevant training. It also offers the option to pursue a Master’s in International Finance from reputed UK universities such as Queen Margaret University or the University of the West of Scotland alongside ACCA professional studies, equipping students for global career opportunities in finance and accounting.
B.com with CIAP
The department offers Certified International Accounting Professional (CIAP) program, an internationally recognized certification by the Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers (IAB), UK, and validated by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), India.
This globally respected program equips students with practical, industry-relevant accounting skills and enhances their professional credibility for global career opportunities. Students receive direct placement support from the International Accountants and Business (IAB) through the CIAP Programme.
