Mar Elias College, Kottappady is a private self-financing Christian Minority arts and science college established in 2006 by the Mar Elias Educational Trust under the aegis of Kalkkunnel Mar Geevarghese Sahada Church, Kottappady. It is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and approved by the Government of Kerala.The serene campus sprawling over 7.49 acers is located at Kottappady, near Kothamangalam, the doorstep of Western Ghats of Kerala. The idyllic location of the campus enjoys the refreshing aura of the rural ambience and provides a conducive ambience for learning. The nearest railway station is Aluva, 32 km west and the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport 31 km northwest of the College.

Saint Ignatius Elias III was the Patriarch of Antioch, and head of the Syriac Orthodox Church from 1917 until his death in 1932.Nasri was born in 1867 in the city of Madrin, Nasri joined the Forty Martyrs Seminary, and in 1887, he joined the Monastery of Mor Hananyo near Mardin and was ordained deacon by Peter IV.Elias was ordained priest in 1892 by Peter IV, and during the Massacre of Diyarbakir in 1895, Elias gave refuge to approximately 7000 Armenian refugees in the Monastery of Mor Quryaqos.In 1912, he was transferred to Mosul where he served until his elevation to the patriarchate in 1917. After the death of the Patriarch Abded Aloho II died in 1915, Mor Iwanius was elected Patriarch and assumed the throne in 1917.
In the year AD 1907, H.G. Joseph Mor Divannasios Metropolitan [popularly known as Pulikkottil Thirumeni] sent a decree of Blessings to our forefathers permitting them to construct a Cross at this place. Accordingly, they erected a Cross with laterite stones and instituted it on 23rd of Thulam 1907.

Libraries are places where there are no restrictions on access to information in a variety of formats and sources. They are repositories of information. Our college features a well-organized library system that supports the reading and learning needs of students and faculty.
Mar Elias college maintains a sophisticated computer lab with sufficiently configured computers. Individual access and the students get hand on experience in the lab. The computer terminals are connected with Local Area Network (LAN) so that students can make use of internet for study purpose.
The canteen is located inside the College. Even many day students use the cafeteria for breakfast, lunch and snacks.
The college provides excellent transportation facilities to the students and faculty. This facility brings the students and faculty to the campus in the morning before commencement of the class and return back after the completion of the class. This helps all the students to reach home early and safely. College buses are available from Kothamangalam, Keerampara, Kuruppampady, Irumalapady and Perumbavoor.
