Mar Elias College, PG Department of Social work in association with IQAC and Pratham (NGO) conducted a District level training of Annual Status of Education survey during 25th September 2023 to 1st October 2023. The training started with a formal Inauguration and it was inaugurated by Dr Jose Antony (HOD Department of Social Work ,Sree Shankaracharya University Kalady), in the presence of college vice principal Ms. Jincy P Mathews, Mr. C.M Baby( Manager), Ms. Soumya Mathew (HOD ,Dept. Of Social Work), Ms. Tintu Scaria (IQAC Coordinator), Research associates of ASER and other faculty members.
Mr. Vittil Nixon, ASER associate, gave a keynote speech to the session. Ms. Deepti.M., Assistant professor in the department of social work, delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the formal session. After the formal session, Mr. Vittil Nixon (an ASER associate) gave a presentation about the Pratham NGO and the introduction portion of the ASER survey.
Mr. Nikhil A (Research associate) then led a training session on the Guidelines for Recording Youth Information and Youth Aspirations and Digital Awareness. The associates led several sessions and intra-training exercises as well.
The main focus of this training and survey was to understand the educational status of children between the ages of 14 and 18. The survey asks for information pertaining to completing out the survey booklet and receiving approval from the panchayat; as a result, the surveyors need to meet with the panchayat and obtain information about it. The district of Ernakulum staged the survey where the same was conducted on different wards of the district.
Outcome of the program
Through this District level training and survey the students could understand the tools for data collection, sample selection procedure and sources of data .It enabled the students to learn about different research procedures for their future research endeavors.
