Mar Elias College Kottappady, The Department of Social Work, in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS), organized World AIDS Day 2025 on 1st December 2025 at the Mar Elias College Campus. The programme aimed to create awareness about HIV/AIDS and to promote solidarity with people living with HIV. As part of the observance, badge distribution and a thumb impression campaign were conducted to symbolize support, inclusion, and commitment towards eliminating stigma.
An awareness session was conducted by Ms. Soumya Mathew, Head of the Department of Social Work, focusing on the causes, modes of transmission, prevention and social stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. The session emphasized the importance of empathy, responsible behaviour and the role of social workers in addressing HIV/AIDS- related challenges
A mime performance by the first-year MSW students added a creative and impactful element to the programme, portraying the social realities and emotional struggles of people living with HIV/AIDS. The programme was organized for first-year MSW students and concluded with a renewed commitment to spreading awareness, fostering sensitivity, and promoting a compassionate and inclusive society.
