As part of the World Tourism Day celebrations “PARYADAN”, Travel O’ Scope in association with the Department of Tourism Studies organised an interactive session on “Sustainable Tourism” on 29 September 2023 as the winding up session. Mr. Abin K I, Assistant Professor of Tourism, Dept. of Tourism & Hotel Management, Govt. Arts & Science College, Kondotty, Malappuram was the resource person.
Sustainable Tourism refers to sustainable practices in and by the tourism industry. It is an aspiration to acknowledge all impacts of tourism, both positive and negative. It aims to minimize the negative impacts and maximize the positive ones.
He made the session really fruitful by elaborating the 17 Global Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, which were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Competitions like nadanpattu competition and a treasure hunt were conducted. And prizes for winners were distributed by the chief guest. In addition to this, the Speaker shared his real-life experiences and interacted with students. Students were delighted after having this learning session.
