National Reading Day is celebrated across the country on June 19 every year. The day is celebrated in honour of Father of India 's Library movement, the late P N Paniker.
Recognizing the importance of reading and encouraging the same amongst students, Mar Athanasius Library in association with Mar Elias Language Association and Reading Club celebrated National Reading Week-2023 (celebrations for the Month).
Reading and various interesting activities related to books were organised for students. The main among them were Pledge Taking Ceremony, Book Donation Drive, Book Cover Designing, Reading competition and Vocabulary Introduction.
The celebrations started on 22 June 2023 with pledge taking ceremony at respective classes where the students vowed to read and shine the light of knowledge.
Book reading competition in three languages (English, Hindi, & Malayalam) was conducted on 26 June 2023. In this competition students read an excerpt from a given book and judges valued it based on their accent and pronunciation.
A Book cover designing competition was conducted on 23 June 2023. It was based on the book “Thendivargham” by Thakazhi Sivasankarapillai, and students with their imaginative & creative ideas designed excellent book covers.
From August 1st week onwards vocabulary introduction was started. A new word with its meaning and pronunciation was circulated in all students WhatsApp group. It improves all areas of communication of a student.
In connection with this celebration a Book Donation Drive was conducted. Books were collected from the staff of our college and Staff Secretary officially hand over the collected books to librarian (nearly 30 books) in a staff meeting on 04 August 2023.

All these focused on promoting reading as a regular habit among young learners. It was a fun filled month when the book world came alive and left a great impact on the minds of both teachers and the students.
