On August 1, 2024, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit No. 109 of Mar Elias College, Kottappady, organized a humanitarian collection campaign titled “Wayanadinayi Kaikorkam” to support the flood-affected people of Wayanad district. This campaign aimed to collect essential items such as food, clothing, and medical supplies to provide relief to those impacted by the devastating floods in Wayanad. The NSS unit collaborated with students and faculty members to ensure the success of the initiative.
In the days leading up to the event, NSS volunteers raised awareness about the campaign through posters, social media announcements, and word-of-mouth communication. The importance of contributing to the relief efforts was emphasized to encourage greater participation. Collection booths were strategically set up across the college campus to facilitate easy drop-off of donated items. Volunteers were assigned specific responsibilities to manage the booths and assist contributors.
The campaign began with an opening ceremony in the college reception, where the Principal, Dr. Joseph T Moolayil, addressed the students and faculty. The Principal emphasized the urgency of the situation in Wayanad and commended the NSS Unit for taking this initiative.
