Swachhatha Hi Seva

In alignment with the nationwide "Swachhatha Hi Seva" campaign, Mar Elias College organized a cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which is celebrated every year on October 2nd. The event aimed to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability while commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's principles of cleanliness and service.

The primary objectives of the program were:
1. To raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and sanitation among students and the local community.
2. To encourage active participation in keeping public spaces clean.
3. To contribute towards the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative launched by the Government of India.

The event began at 9:30 AM at Virippakattu Chira, a local public area. The NSS volunteers, along with college faculty members and students, gathered to kick off the cleanliness drive.

Participants were provided with cleaning tools such as brooms, garbage bags, and gloves to ensure a systematic approach to waste collection. The volunteers engaged in cleaning activities, which included sweeping the area, picking up litter, and disposing of non-biodegradable waste responsibly.

The drive successfully collected and disposed of a significant amount of waste, leading to a visibly cleaner environment at Virippakattu Chira. The participation of students and staff not only made the program effective but also set an example for the community about the importance of maintaining public spaces.

The "Swachhatha Hi Seva" cleanliness drive at Mar Elias College served as a reminder of the collective responsibility towards environmental conservation. It highlighted the significance of small individual efforts in achieving larger societal goals. The program concluded with the pledge to continue maintaining cleanliness in the community.
