The NSS Unit No. 109 of Mar Elias College, Kottappady, in collaboration with Kottappady Grama Panchayat, successfully conducted a Plastic Awareness Rally on 01/10/2024 The event aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives among the local community.
Objectives of the Rally:
Educate the public on the environmental hazards of plastic waste.
Encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives.
Advocate for responsible waste management and recycling.
The rally commenced from the college premises at 10 am and proceeded through major areas of Kottappady, with students and volunteers actively participating. They carried placards, banners, and posters with impactful messages on plastic pollution. Slogans were chanted to engage the local community and spread awareness effectively.
The event was flagged off by Mrs. Mini Gopi, the Panchayat President, in the presence of faculty members, and NSS volunteers. Several dignitaries, including local environmental activists and Panchayat members, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of reducing single-use plastics.The rally concluded at Kottappady Grama Panchayath Office, where a brief awareness session was conducted by environmental experts.
