Electoral Literacy Club is a platform to engage College students through interesting activities and hands-on experience to sensitize them on their electoral rights and familiarize them with the electoral process of registration and voting. Electoral Literacy Club of Mar Elias College, Kottappady in collaboration with Election Commission of India and Election Wing of Kothamangalam Taluk conducted “New Voter Registration Drive” on 01 December, 2023 at Seminar Hall from 10:30 to 12:30. The Programme was presided by Dr. Bruce Mathew, Principal Mar Elias College, Kottappady. A warm welcome was extended to all dignitaries by Mr. Lijo T. George, Electoral Literacy Club Coordinator. The Chief guest of the programme was Mr. Jairaj Joseph, Deputy Tahsildar, Kothamangalam Taluk. Student Coordinator Mr. Basil Eldhose proposed the Vote of Thanks. It was followed by a session taken by Mr. Ameerudheen K A, Sr. Clerk Election Taluk Office, Kothamangalam. He trained the students to register the voters ID through online. The Voter Registration Drive also functioned as a camp for the new voters who haven’t yet registered their name to enter their names into the voters list and assure their role in building a democracy. The main aim of participating in the programme was to enroll the new electors through a mobile App and introduced the new mobile application for acquiring new voter ID card. The outcome of the Voter Registration Drive is students who were not enrolled as voters, got themselves registered to cast their votes in the upcoming Elections and further sensitized their family members about the importance of every single vote.
