Mar Elias College Kottappady, in collaboration with NSS, College Health Club, Kottappady Grama Panchayath, and TVJ Eye Hospital, Thankalam, organized a Free Eye Camp on 11th March 2024 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the college auditorium. The purpose of the camp was to provide comprehensive eye care services to the community, focusing on early detection and treatment of eye-related issues.
At 9:00 am, a team from TVJ Eye Hospital, Thankalam, comprising one ophthalmologist, one manager, and two assistants, arrived with the necessary eye testing equipment, marking the commencement of the camp. The team's presence ensured that attendees received professional care and attention throughout the event.The Free Eye Camp offered a wide range of facilities to address various eye health concerns, including the detection of nerve damage, checking eye pressure, correcting vision disorders, conducting cataract diagnostic tests, performing visual range tests, and expert tests for diabetic patients. Additionally, free medicines (limited) were distributed to attendees in need of medication.The camp attracted participants from neighboring villages of Kottappady, as well as students and staff of Mar Elias College, reflecting the community's interest and awareness in eye health.
A total of 128 individuals registered and utilized the facilities provided at the camp, indicating the significant impact and reach of the initiative.During the camp, some patients were advised to visit the hospital for further treatment, highlighting the importance of early intervention in managing eye conditions. The seamless organization and execution of the camp were made possible by the diligent efforts of Ms. Vidya V V (NSS Programme Officer), Mr. Lijo T George (NSS Programme Officer), Ms. Blessy Aleyas (Health Club Convenor), Ms. Febeena O S (Health Club Coordinator), and NSS volunteers.By 1:00 pm, the Free Eye Camp was successfully concluded, leaving a positive impact on the attendees and reinforcing Mar Elias College Kottappady's commitment to community welfare. The event served as a testament to the collaborative spirit and dedication of all stakeholders involved in promoting eye health within the community.
