Blood Donation Drive - 2024

The NSS Unit No. 109 of Mar Elias College, Kottappady, successfully organized a blood donation drive on 26th October 2024. The event aimed to promote the importance of voluntary blood donation and contribute to the healthcare needs of the community. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Mar Baselious Medical Mission Hospital, Kothamangalam ensuring that the collected blood units were safely handled and stored for medical use.
Objectives
    • To create awareness about the significance of blood donation.
    • To encourage students and faculty members to participate in life-saving activities.
    • To support hospitals and blood banks in maintaining an adequate blood supply.

The event commenced with an inaugural session graced by the presence of Sri. Sunil Joseph, Manager, Mar Elias College, Kottappady who emphasized the noble cause of blood donation. The NSS Program Officer, Sri. Lijo T George, addressed the gathering and motivated students to take part in the drive.
A team of medical professionals from Mar Baselious Medical Mission Hospital, Kothamangalam facilitated the donation process, ensuring all safety and hygiene protocols were followed. Volunteers from the NSS unit assisted in managing the registration, donor support, and post-donation care.
The drive witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 30 donors participating, including students, faculty members, and staff. The collected blood units were handed over to Mar Baselious Medical Mission Hospital, Kothamangalam for further processing and distribution to patients in need.
The event also helped in dispelling common myths about blood donation and encouraged more individuals to become regular donors. The positive feedback from participants highlighted the success of the initiative.
