7 Day NSS Camp - 2024

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit No. 109 successfully conducted a seven-day special camp at Government High School, Mamalakandam, from 20th December 2024 to 26th December 2024. The camp was organized with the aim of fostering community service, personal development, and social responsibility among volunteers. A total of 46 NSS volunteers participated, along with program officers and faculty coordinators.
Objectives of the Camp
    • To promote social service and leadership skills among students
    • To create awareness about health, hygiene, and environmental conservation
    • To engage in community development activities
    • To enhance teamwork and personal discipline

Day 1: Inauguration & Orientation (20th December 2024)
The camp was inaugurated by the Block Panchayath Member in the presence of the NSS program officers, Principal, Manager, Vice Principal and local dignitaries. Volunteers were briefed about the objectives and schedule of the camp. The first session focused on team-building activities and an orientation on NSS values and responsibilities.
Day 2: Cleanliness Drive & Campus Beautification (21st December 2024)
The day began with a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cleanliness drive in and around the school campus. Volunteers actively participated in cleaning classrooms, playgrounds, and nearby public spaces. In the afternoon session, volunteers got a self defence session by Muhammed Yasin, our Alumni.
Day 3: Cleanliness Drive & Cyber Crimes Awareness (22nd December 2024)
The morning session was dedicated to cleaning the areas outside the school premises, including roads, public spaces, and nearby surroundings, to promote hygiene and cleanliness in the local community.
In the afternoon, an awareness session on cyber crimes was conducted by Mr. Albin Peter, who educated students and volunteers on online fraud, cyberbullying, data privacy, and safe internet practices. The session provided valuable insights into digital safety and responsible internet usage.
Day 4: Painting Walls & Motivation Session (23rd December 2024)
The morning session was dedicated to painting works within the school campus, where volunteers helped in repainting school gates, and boundary fences to enhance the aesthetics of the school environment.
In the afternoon, a motivational session was conducted by Mr. Jobin George, who inspired the students and volunteers by sharing his insights on goal setting, self-confidence, and perseverance.
The day concluded with a Christmas carol event in the evening, where volunteers spread festive cheer by singing Christmas carols in the nearby village, creating a joyful and heartwarming atmosphere.
Day 5: Painting Walls & Drug Awareness Session & Vegetable Garden Setting (24th December 2024)
The morning session continued with painting works in different areas of the school campus to complete the beautification efforts.
In the afternoon, an awareness session was conducted by Mr. Ebrahim, Excise Officer, who addressed the students and volunteers on the dangers of substance abuse, alcohol consumption, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. His session was informative and encouraged the volunteers to spread awareness about the issue in their communities.
Later, the volunteers set up a vegetable garden within the school premises, planting tomatoes, spinach, beans, and other seasonal vegetables. This initiative aimed to promote sustainable agriculture and encourage students to learn about organic farming and self-sufficiency.
Later in the day, the volunteers visited a nearby tribal colony to interact with the tribal community. They engaged in discussions about their lifestyle, challenges, and cultural traditions. Volunteers also distributed essential supplies such as food, clothes, and stationery to the residents. The visit was an eye-opening experience that deepened their understanding of tribal heritage and social issues.
Day 6: Local area visit, School Premises cleaning & Fire & Safety Awareness Session (25th December 2024)
The day started with a local area visit, where volunteers explored the surroundings of Mamalakandam, understanding its geography, lifestyle, and community infrastructure.
After returning, they completed the remaining painting works in the school campus, giving the buildings and fences a fresh new look.
A final round of school premises cleaning was also conducted, ensuring that the entire campus was tidy and well-maintained.
In the afternoon, a fire and safety awareness session was conducted by experts from the Fire and Safety Department. The session focused on fire prevention techniques, emergency response strategies, and basic first aid procedures. Volunteers were also given a demonstration on handling fire extinguishers and emergency evacuation procedures.
Day 7: Valedictory Function & Camp Conclusion (26th December 2024)
The final day marked the valedictory ceremony, where volunteers shared their experiences and key learnings from the camp. The event was concluded by NSS Anthem and Vote of thanks by NSS Programme Officer.

The seven-day NSS camp at Government High School, Mamalakandam, was a transformative experience for all participants.
